For their 17th seasonal limited-edition release, Field Notes have created a pocket memo book that will hold up to extreme conditions: wind, rain, sleet and abuse of all kinds. The EXPEDITION EDITION sports a hi-visibility "Antarctic Survey Orange" front cover and "Polar Night Black" back cover, with a subtle varnish effect featuring a topographic map of Antarctica.
The body pages feature 'dot grid' graph paper, printed in light grey. The real innovation here is the paper. It's maybe not even fair to call it paper. The whole book is printed on Yupo Synthetic, a water- and tear-proof, high-tech paper manufactured in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Each 3-Pack is belly-banded in grey and shrink-wrapped, and ready for pretty much whatever gets thrown at it.
- Pack of three pocket-size books
- 48 pages in each
Please note - from Field Notes themselves: Regular ball-point pens and pencils work fine, but pens that lay down a lot of ink, like fountain pens, rollerballs, and markers, don’t dry as quickly, and may smudge and/or come off on the opposite page.
Hailing back to the days before we all carried our lives around with us in a credit card-sized computer, the Field Notes books celebrate the old fashioned art of jotting things down. Inspired by American-style agricultural memo books and pocket ledgers, these cult notebooks are ironically a big hit with the most technically advanced.

I love the Field Notes. The Expedition Edition has a great colour scheme. The paper is water resistant and is perfect for walking or cycling, which is my use.

Field Notes always have cool little notebooks guaranteed to make you hipper just by owning them, but this one is super cool. The tear resistance and waterproof notebook is just so great. If you are an outdoorsy person, this is a must have notebook for you. Paired with a pencil you could go anywhere in the english rain and still write down the brilliant ideas as they come to you. I love mine and highly recommended The Expedition Edition!

Field Notes 'Expedition' Edition 'Update'

This is just an update to my previous post. My favourite pen on this special paper is the Fisher Space Pen. It works really well without smearing or smudging and seems to dry better than other pens.

I've tried all sorts of note books and this is my first FN. The size and thickness is great. I love the orange colour cover (black to the back). Some other notebooks are just a bit too 'chunky' for me .... but these are really thin but still have a quality feel. I also like the 3 staple binding. The paper has a dot grid which is good ... I prefer it to lined, graph or plain. The paper feel is kinda wierd, I suspect its quite abrasive but takes pencil and 'biro' nicely. May place an order for a few more packs as they make great gifts.

Feels good, looks good and does you good.

The Expedition Pack was a 75th birthday present from me to me. The books are replacements for my 'Arctic White' trio from last year which stood up well to the rigours of being carted around in assorted pockets. My wife thinks I am crazy to spend this much on notebooks when we can buy a pack of 12 from the local 99p Store. Forgive her, she just doesn't get my love of Americana, retro-chic and durable modern classics that have a great back story. Thanks for making these so easily availabale here in UK. You may want to remind your readers that when Field Notes say 'limited editionm' they really do mean that when they are gone, they are gone!

I did ask before I purchased a couple of questions and was expecting a notebook comparable with a Red & Black A4 ish size, not a Pocket size. Not a lot of use, but looks pretty !

The sizes are on the size tab but we have since amended the description to hopefully make it clearer that these are pocket-size books.

Lovely!

I _really_ like this “paper”: it has a lovely smooth feel to the writing while at the same time it bites well on the pencil. I tested a couple of writing implements: 1. Fountain pen (Montblanc medium nib and ink) - works really well without bleeding through, though with predictable slow drying (very limited absorption). 2. Fisher Space Pen - just works (as well as the space pen ever works: I always get lumps). 3. Pencil (2=B) - great! Just great. I could do this all day. Yay! 4. J. Herbin rollerball pen and ink - feels good but _very_ slow drying; slower even than the much broader Montblanc pen. Happy days. When can we have A4 versions with this paper?

I normally use a Red n' Black D66172, which lasts a Year.
Allowing for two facing pages per Week of notes etc,
