Beautifully designed set of 24 pencils inspired by renowned architect Michael Graves
A striking set of 24 colour drawing pencils in an equally striking box, these pencils are from the design studio of Michael Graves. The textured box has a lift-off lid and pulls out of a glossy die-cut sleeve showcasing a perfect grid of squares, a subtle nod to the designer's penchant for designing windows in a grid. A folded leaflet features an inspiring essay on the use of color in the design process. Both minimal and elegant, the set reflects Graves’ aesthetic and makes a rather beautiful gift.
Michael Graves is an American architect and major influencer of post-modern architecture. His design for the Portland Building showcases his trademark use of windows in a grid and his design for the Alessi singing bird kettle is a design classic.

- About the brand
These American-made pencils are considered to be one of the finest ever made and have something of a cult following. Discontinued in 1998, they soon became hot property on eBay with single pencils selling for $40 each. Brought back from extinction after petitions and protests in 2011, these are still made from the same Californian incense cedar with the finest Japanese-crafted graphite core. They are a dream to write with - Half the pressure, twice the speed - is their motto. The eraser tip is flat-ended for accuracy and there are three versions which differ in firmness with the standard Blackwing the softest, the Pearl medium and the 602 the firmest.
These pencils have a proud heritage and famous users include John Steinbeck, Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein and Chuck Jones, who created Bugs Bunny with his Palamino.
