10th Anniversary - Day 2

Day 2 - March 2nd 2013

Q: Which artist played in the Great Newport Street venue? (clue - it's an anagram of CORNY LEEK)

Although we are celebrating our 10th anniversary online, there are many of you who remember when we were just an old-fashioned shop in London's West End well before we had a website. The original, and last, shop was on Great Newport Street between Leicester Square and Covent Garden. I wasn't involved in those days - it was Kathy and Jo's idea - and the shop first opened its doors back in December 1995. By the time I had joined there was a busy little team working in the offices downstairs, in a little room that extended out under the pavement. On busy winter days it would be dark when you went in, and dark when you went home. The room also had a bit of history attached to it, as back in the day it was a music venue. Think of it like a London Cavern, although without The Beatles. Or the renowned history. But it would have been a sweaty, compact little place.
