Striking rollerball that uses standard ink cartridges

This new rollerball from J Herbin is a unique pen which uses standard ink cartridges instead of expensive rollerball refills. This also allows you to choose from a huge range of colours. The pen has a clear barrel and lid with chrome clip and a very fine point. The rollerballᅠis a short 10cm when uncapped but 14cm with the cap on the rear end when in use.

  • Excellent value
  • Uses standard international ink cartridges
  • Comes with one blue cartridge (not with pen & ink set, only with single pen)
  • Takes the J Herbin ink cartridges

Very cute pen; beautiful ink
Written by Nicola humphreys ( 02/11/2015)
I now have seven of these pens, and several tins of different coloured cartridges. They are great value for money, cute and write evenly, without blobbing. I am delighted with this product and cannot fault it. There is occasional scratchiness, but I rotate the pen just 1mm and write with that part of the ballpen on the paper. I sit neater to a printer in an office where colleagues frequently borrow a pen from my desk, and sometimes forget to return it. Word has got round that I use pink/purple/green ink. There have been fewer instances of people 'borrowing' my pen, unless they want to reprint their document that they have just signed in pink ink!
Perfect colouring pen

i have several of these loaded with Iroshizuku inks that I use for colouring. I've seen some other reviews that mention faulty products, but I've been really lucky so far, and plan to get a lot more in the future. I do find a couple of them a little scratchy, but I actually kind of like the sound. The ink flows very smoothly (I fill through the nib to get the maximum capacity) and hasn't dried up even slightly (and I'm ashamed to admit I've broken a couple of fountain pens for storing them with ink...). All in all, I've found the perfect solution to hauling around tiny pods of inks and dip pens, and can't recommend them enough.
Nice ink, but only that.

I love the ink, and have several pots for my main fountain pen. This is just too scratchy for me. It's not as smooth as I'd expect but I love the ink so I persevere. Nothing to do with BD, probably to do with J Herbin!
It gets better!
Written by Peter Thornber ( 03/12/2014)
Since my previous post I've yet another rollerball and this time it is {fingers crossed!}, thankfully, really a case of "third time lucky'". The ink doesn't leak, the lettering doesn't fade. The pen has obviously thrown off, and outgrown, its teething troubles and is a joy to use. Since then, I bought the new metallic rollerball as soon as it came out and it is even better. Besides using a fountain pen ink, these Herbin rollerballs have the further distinction of having the "nib" separate from the ink cartridge and thus part of the pen which makes these RBs resemble a fountain pen more than their fellows which are more like a ballpoint.
