About Covent Garden and Soho
The former fruit and vegetable market dates back to 1654 but in 1974 it was forever changed in to a shopping centre complete with bars and restaurants. The market is still there but now you will find jewellery and other hand-made trinkets. The smaller side streets have some interesting shops and bars but the area these days is most famous for its street performers and the fantastic London Transport Museum.
Soho is the beating heart of the gay scene and many of the shops on Old Compton Street are not for the faint-hearted. The area is full of fantastic independent shops such as the Algerian Coffee Store and Gerrys as well as a huge range of different cuisines and so many bars.
